Miniature painting, terrain building, differently themed bases, dioramas, conversions, tutorials, reports on workshops and events for miniature painters. My projects have often been inspired by feedback of other hobbyists. This blog is for you! I hope that one day, it will be a source of mutual inspiration, a virtual meeting point for miniature painters to connect, share ideas, improve their skills and thus ultimately support each other in their creative work.

Banshee's Anonimous Bust Contest - Final pics of both entries
Yeah, I managed to finish both entries!!!
Here are the final pics and the corresponding stories I sent the jury:
TransFormation
He had always liked the scent of women, the refinement of their clothes, the way they moved. For as long as he could remember.
After leading the typical life expected of men … pursuing a career, finding the right woman, getting two children, buying his own home in a decent suburb for his family … after so many years of hiding how he really felt, who he really was, he finally couldn’t suppress his true self any longer and realized that freedom is about being so truly, madly and deeply attached to your own soul that you can’t bear – if only for a moment – a life that doesn’t honour it.
The Mad Hatter based on the motion picture 'Alice in Wonderland' directed by Tim Burton
“Mad Matter: "Have I gone mad?"
Alice: "I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”
I somehow found this quote very fitting for us miniature painters as well. Hope you like it, too!

The best thing about this contest for me are all the great versions people thought of and created. Google the hashtags above and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Thank you for starting this creative process, Banshee! I had a blast developing ideas, creating and painting my entries, and I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only one!

Romantic getaway ahead!
You might be wondering now: 'Why on earth is she mentioning this in a blogpost?'
Well, it's not the usual romantic weekend couples do, but rather what my partner and I consider to be a romantic getaway on our very own terms. No romantic wellness hotel, no rose petals on a king size bed, no honeymoon suite, no champagne, no long walks along the beach involved ...
Instead: 2 days with a maximum of creativity led by a fantastic teacher who happens to be one of the top painters in the miniature world, i.e. Roman Lappat aka Jarhead. A Roman-tic private coaching just for the two of us ...
Some of you might know the figure I chose to paint:
Those who know me well might be wondering why I chose such a classic "barbarian saves the princess" miniature.
Well, I promise to bring my very own style to this classic and interpret it in a completely new way!
Let's start into a new year full of joy and creativity together!

First entry for Banshee's Anonimous Bust Contest - done!
3 pics of the final version of said entry:
Unfortunately, the sign for this bust saying 'Have I gone mad?' hasn't been in the mail yet. As soon as it arrives, I will add it to the plinth.
Off to paint my second entry for this contest ... :-)

The Mad Hatter's hat
Oops, I've just realised I haven't updated my blog with the Mad Hatter for quite a while despite a lot of progress.
Meanwhile his skin is almost done ... White is tricky to paint. I used blue for the shadows.
Then I painted one of the most important parts, his hat ...
Regarding the flower pattern you can only see after enlarging the original picture (see below), I made use of my freedom of artistic expression and changed it a bit compared to the original.
How do you like him so far?

First eyes on a bust
Today I added eyes to both entries for Banshee's Anonimous Bust Contest. The first time ever on a bust ...
White followed by Reikland Fleshshade and a black dot ...
Two shades of yellow on the left and two shades of green on the right ...
... and in the end a tiny black dot and an even tinier white dot.
Don't ask me how often I tried and repainted the different stages - and I'm not even satisfied with the result. :-(
If you have any recommendations on how to proceed or helpful links, don't hesitate to post them in the comments. I definitely need to improve!!!

Have I gone mad?
"I'm afraid so. You're entirely bonkers."
"But I will tell you a secret.
All the best people are!"
(Alice in Wonderland)
I'm relieved to tell you that several people realised that it's the mad hatter even before I had added hair to the bust. Which was a lot of fun BTW as you can see on these pics. :-)

Anonimous Bust Contest - Update
I've made progress with the conversion of one of my entries for the contest mentioned above:
First attempt to put the bow tie together.
Done!
When I turned my back on the bust and my partner for a minute or so, this happened:
:-DDD
Eyebrows!
So now that you have seen all these WIP pics: Who is it?

Banshee's painting and creation contest
First pics of one of my contributions for Banshee's painting and creation contest:
I'm going to enter two contributions, both of them in the creation category which is rather unusual for me. Normally I'd go for painting only. For both ideas I have painting wouldn't be sufficient though. So I decided to go for a new challenge: sculpting.

Material Masterclass - Part II
After studying various materials, we went on painting some of their textures on paper and glazing them. Very helpful for me because *shame
on me* I still hadn't mastered glazing at that point in time.
For those of you who still struggle with this technique as well: Try it on paper and you will quickly see whether there is, for example, too much water in your brush.
After all these exercises to understand how grisaille works, we finally started painting our own busts using this technique. Impressions:
Instead of using a brush, I even started painting the leather gloves with my fingers before adding more texture to it - that was fun!
Looked awful at first. At least, that's what I thought before we started adding colour to our busts by glazing them:

The
results are amazing (don't you think so?) and I'm glad to be able to
add yet another tool (or rather two if you also count glazing) to my
'painting toolbox' by attending this workshop and can only recommend you
to do the same. Here's a link to this year's Massive Voodoo workshop
roadmap in case this blogpost has inspired you to give it a try:
